In 1990, the summer before my freshman year in high school, I had the opportunity to travel to South America to work on several community service projects in remote communities in Ecuador.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to experience life in another family’s home, community, and country. I know in my heart that I left a part of myself in Ecuador and it left something in me. I have always wanted to go back – if only to tell my wonderful Rotary International host family how much I appreciated their hospitality.

I owe the whole experience to a wonderful organization called Amigos de las Americas, which has continued to give U.S. students these amazing opportunities year after year. The work we did had an immediate impact on the lives of these villagers. We planted trees, taught dental hygiene in elementary schools and vaccinated dogs against rabies. Yes, you read that right – with no medical experience – we went into remote villages to vaccinate dogs (often wild and ownerless). We made amazing memories and friends.

Kidding aside, we all survived and as a result of this amazing summer experience, we returned home more mature, culturally aware, and inspired to continue serving communities at home and abroad.

“AMIGOS was founded on the principle that young people can change the world  - a world where each young person becomes a life-long catalyst for social change.”

This is where Giveback Homes comes in.  I first heard of this charitable organization when one of it’s co-founders, Caroline Pinal , spoke about social responsibility at the INMAN real estate and technology conference in 2015 in NYC. Everything she said on the stage resonated with me and I knew I had to be a part of this movement. Being in real estate, I appreciate seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they close on their dream property. That’s one of the reasons I love what I do – helping families put down roots or move on to new phases in their lives.

Being part of a charity that helps a family in need experience that same joy, is something that I am proud to be a part of. Giveback Homes encourages real estate professionals to “dig deeper” and make that commitment to help families by funding and helping motivate volunteer homebuilders to create safe, inviting homes for some who have never known that before.

Contributing regularly through our business helps ground our team and reminds us to remember those to whom a home is not a given. When you choose The Gosselin Group to partner with, a portion of the proceeds from every closing goes to build a home for a family in need - not only in the U.S., but all across the world.

In 2016, together with our clients, our team contributed to Haiti Relief to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. In 2017, the organization is ambitiously raising funds to build projects in the following areas

“Giveback Homes is a community of real estate professionals committed to creating social change by helping build homes for deserving families around the globe. We work together to organize fundraising events, mobilize teams of volunteer homebuilders, and we inspire others to take action for social good.”

The Gosselin Group is so grateful to be a part of such a worthy community and we encourage you to join us and expand the dream of home ownership across the world!
